Before I begin this review, let me say this. Whether or not you enjoy this book, please remember to remain respectful. This book is self-published and that by it self is a major accomplishment.
Okay so I will say I was very hesitant to say how much I actually enjoyed this freaking book. But I am now embracing the fact that I like blue alien smut.
So onto the actual review:
Short summary:
"You'd think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you'd be wrong. Because now, the aliens are having ship trouble, and they've left their cargo of human women - including me - on an ice planet.
And the only native inhabitant I've met? He's big, horned, blue, and really, really has a thing for me.." - From Goodreads
The Plot:
There was not an overly complicated plot. It was straight forward but I think that really did not take away from the overall story. So yes, the plot was minimal but it really counted in the author's favor. The exposition is something I did not expect at all and it surprised me quite a bit. Note: The start of the novel does briefly cover content that might be triggering to some people such as sexual assault. Also that triggering content happens before our main character meets her love interest.
This book is written in a way that should not be taken too seriously and because of some of its lightheartedness it really just enhanced my enjoyment. Also I found some scenes absolutely hilarious.
“And then I want to weep. To think I haven’t dressed properly for alien abduction.”
The characters:
Georgie was a funny main character. Probably not my favourite from all the books I have read but I enjoyed her not-so-serious perspective. I also liked Vektal. I have to admit, I love a story where a seemingly threatening guy (or in this case alien) is a total softy towards the one he cares about. The other characters were interesting, but not much was revealed of them because they each have their own book. And yes the alien characters do in fact remind me of Avatar, I am deeply sorry :)
The romance *cough* SMUT *cough*:
I sure do hope any future employers do not read this review. Anyhow, I enjoyed the smut. It was super spicy. At first I thought I would not like it, because you know, Vektal’s an alien and all that. But believe me when I say I did not mind at all. Obviously the language is quite vulgar, and for someone like me who has not read a smut book like this before ( Wattpad comes close though) it took awhile not to cringe while reading some of the words. I did eventually forget about my feelings towards the vulgar words of the book and enjoyed it. The peeps that have read this book would also know what I mean when I say the word spur.
Overall thoughts:
I initially read this book as a joke.
“At first I was like hmm ice planet barbarians, as a joke…but bro, I don’t think it’s a joke anymore..”
The writing was actually good in my opinion and the book is extremely addictive...trust me.
I really enjoyed this book. I do not care if it is unrealistic that the male love interest cares so much about Georgie, I do not care that this book is all about mates and has the pregnancy trope. To those who say this book is unrealistic and trash, please excuse yourself and let me read my alien smut in peace. You're worse than a metlak.
Another thing I want to mention is that while I was reading Ruby Dixon's books I noticed that her couples match each other so perfectly. Yes of course the sex scenes are a big part of the story but there are some really cute moments between the couples. The author said somewhere that she will always write her books so that they have happy endings and that makes me very happy. Not to get to sentimental about this book but they have really created such an amazing escape for me from reality and to Ruby Dixon I say keep em' coming. I will never tire of this world as I constantly enjoy her books with these peculiar and rather endearing blue aliens.
Alexa play “Toxic” by Britney Spears , because yes I like to read about possessive men in books (just not the overbearing type, I do have limits). The guys in these books are actually total softies and will literally do anything for their significant other.
Go read this book. Now. There is a reason why it is all over tiktok.I know this might not be everyone's taste but be open minded.
Also it is currently free on Kindle unlimited my friends :)
Some quotes from the other books in the series and spinoff series:
“I spy with my blue eye—” “I told you. It’s ‘my little eye.’” “My eyes are not little. Not like yours. So I will spy it with my blue eye.” ― Ruby Dixon, Barbarian's Tease
“Even though I was born here, I feel I did not have a place until you kissed me." I wrap my arms around this sweet, beautiful, strong man. “Then I’m glad I’m here to bring you home.” - Barbarian's Tease
“A fierce hunter like myself needs more encouragement than that. Will you let me mouth-mate you?” - Barbarian's Lady
“Is there something in your eye?” God, he really sucks at flirting, doesn’t he? “Nothing,” - Barbarian's Mate
“I’ve crossed galaxies while I slept, crossed an ocean and back again, but none of that matters. I know where my home is—right here in his arms. It’s where I’ll always want to be.” - Lauren's Barbarian
“She laughs, her eyes bright. “What am I, chopped liver?” Liver? Of course she is liver. The organ meats are the tenderest and most prized, quickly snatched up after a hunt. “Yes, of course you are.” Her face falls. “Oh.” - Devi's Distraction
“And then you’ll come back home to me and we’ll start our happily ever after, right?” “My happy does not wait for later,” he tells me. “My happy is now. Here. With you. I need nothing else.” - Barbarian's Taming
“Who sings next?” someone asks. “I will,” Megan says, standing up. She clears her throat dramatically and puts a hand out in front of her like an opera singer. “Me me me me me,” she sings, warming up. People giggle at her theatrics. Her mate Cashol nods. “It is a simple song, but I like it. The words are easy to remember.” - Barbarian's Hope
